Sandpiper Jewelry Designs is the showcase for jewelry designer Michael Hofheimer, who has been crafting his artistic expression in silver and gold for over 20 years. He earned his Metalsmithing and Jewelry Making degree from the Maine College of Art in 1991 under Tim McCreight and Alan Perry. After college he went to work for one of Americas best jewelry casters, John Henkel. Here, Michael got his education on the jewelry industry from the inside. When he left the Henkel Company, Michael began Sandpiper Silver Designs out of his home and participated in craft fairs and music festivals while working for his ever increasing private clientele and selling his work to jewelry stores and art galleries across the country. In 2005, the first Sandpiper Gallery opened in Cape Elizabeth, Maine on Shore Road, and in 2008 moved to South Portland. Along with making jewelry, Michael also enjoys teaching jewelry making techniques and has taught in the Maine College of Art's Continuing Studied Department for 20 years. He also teaches privately.
